I have two of these and just ordered a third. These flashes are the most reliable TTL on/off camera system I have used. The built in receiver works flawlessly with my YN622s and much more reliably for some reason than other flashes with a YN-622 attached. I am a full time pro, heavy event/wedding shooter, and have been through at least 10 different speedlites. Of the Yongnuo line, I have had the YN-560, the YN-565, the YN600 and the YN685 of course. I use the YN622 triggers which are as close to perfect as I have had. My Pocketwizard TTL triggers are in my closet.

I loved this flash. It exceeded my expectations. Well, I am not a professional photographer, but I used a set of 2 flashes, with remote, for one entire afternoon of photo session and the Yongnuo's performed quite well for my hobby. I will pay more attention of goods from China.

I'ved owned 3 other yongnuo Flashes, this is by far the best. The flash mount system has been dramatically improved over the plastic twist on version. it has a canon/like click mount system that is way more secure . also it receives wireless transmission from the yongnuo 622-c transceiver without any additional hardware. this is the most reliable/cheap/professional off camera flash setup for Canon. Speaking as a professional wedding photographer, the last 2 models had difficulties with batteries moving and the flash cutting off (after extended use) and the flash mount not working (after extended use). this model solves all of that and gives you a price point that's 66% less than cannon's. Canon's flashes will always be superior in build quality and endurance but when you can buy 3 of these for the price of 1 canon then you know the way to go.

I love the flash, it works amazing and is very smooth. Quick to recharge as well. Very sturdy. Sadly, the slave only works with remote transmitters. The actual slave function itself does not work with camera flashes, only YN flash to flash slave. You will need another flash or a transmitter in order to shoot with the flash off camera and wireless. Other than that, the camera itself works amazing and I definitely recommend it. Also, just FYI, it does NOT work with Pocketwizard TT1 and TT5. It will but you cannot secure the flash onto the wizards as the flash will just keep firing over and over without you triggering it.

Been using DSLR cameras for 3 years now, and thought it was time to jump into wireless flash photography. I did many many MANY hours of research.. reading reviews and learning new terms along the way. I wanted to buy a set of flashes and a trigger set that wasn't cheap, reputable, but also didn't break the bank. I ended up deciding that I wanted the following features (which happens to be my PROs list for this flash): ETTL & AF assist - for those moments when I need Auto Mode and for when I'm shooting in the dark (which I am a lot!) High Speed Sync - in order to take outside pictures in bright sun with a flash and wide open aperture External Battery Capable - for if/when I need the faster flash recycle time or longer battery life Reliable triggering wirelessly - I found out that this brand of flash and it's controller 622c-tx were a very good reliable combo Built-in Receivers - so that I can save money by not buying separate transceivers/batteries plus save on space in my camera bag. I ended up buying 2 Yongnuo 685, and 1 Yongnuo 622c-TX Controller - I did some playing around today and I am really excited so far. During my testing, not once did the flashes miss-fire (the built in receivers are working great!) The Flash came with a very sturdy looking carrying pouch, much better than a cheap velvet bag. The ETTL Auto is looking to work VERY well inside - I uploaded an example of ETTL while inside a dimly lit home. I also uploaded a picture I took outside testing out backlighting and front lighting CONS: A minor cosmetic con, the "select" button in the middle of the wheel is loose and flimsy the button flipped upside down, doesn't seem to effect the flash but cosmetically it made it look and feel cheap. (one of my attached photos shows it slightly) I plan to update this review as I use it more, but so far, very exciting stuff!

I bought 3 of these with a YN-622C-TX trigger and they work great together. I have a couple of Canon 580EX flashes, but they are not compatible with my 7D. Upgrading to 1 Canon 580EX II would have cost more than the 3 flashes and controller. I have an ST-E2 transmitter that works with my 580EX flashes, but the Yongnuo radio system is much better. If these are as durable as the Canon flashes, you can't go wrong by buying them.

I have used Yongnuo flashes before (YN 560), and have been content with them as a budget alternative to name brand gear. The YN685, however, blew me away. The build quality is amazing. Where the 560s may have been a "cheap knockoff", this guy feels like a worthy competitor to Canon made flashes. Unless you are a hardcore photog with a big budget, save yourself a bunch of money and stock up on Yongnuo flashes.
