I have a Canon 580 EX II and a Metz 50 AF-1, and was not expecting this to be great. But, I was wrong. The only thing I wish this flash has is HSS, but oh well. Laser assist AF is wonderful. Does a better job than my Metz in that regard. The only bad thing about this flash is that you can't use rechargeable Li-Ion batteries. It warns you not to use them, but I tried anyway thinking it wouldn't hurt anything. It overheats REALLY FAST! I would highly recommend NOT to use Li-Ion rechargeable!

I am by no means a professional photographer, but this flash unit works really good. It did not work on the camera I bought it for (canon powershot HS50X) BUT, I used it twice on my sisters Canon T4i at a couple weddings and it worked excellent. Just be sure you use good batteries like Sanyo eneloop recharable batterys. I took hundreds of pictures with it, and it never missed a beat.......

for the price of a Canon unit, this can't be beat. online reviews are very positive, but the lit display is not the bright orange that the pictures show, more og an off green/brownish color. Do a google search and the reviews all say it's a great unit for the price.

I bought this Flash to use before my Daughter's first birthday on my Canon T3i. I never imagined that it would be this good a flash. The manual is well documented, it works great with TTL metering, and functions flawlessly as a bounce flash. I recommend using NiMh rechargeable batteries to ensure that the flash recycles quickly. I recommend using Eneloops. My only complaint is that is is a little heavy, but that is what a wrist strap is for.

definitely love this flash...only reason I don't have it now is because I bought a camera that this was not compatible with...other than that a great buy..

I'm a wedding photographer and I have never really had limitations with this flash. I do see the advantages of using the higher end stuff, but for what I'm doing, I don't see the $300 difference. If you don't know how to use external flash then I recommend taking the time to actually learn the art with a cheaper flash like a Vivitar 285. It's all manual, but I feel it is necessary to learn these basics before you pay more money and end up getting too frustrated to appreciate a TTL flash. This flash is awesome when paired with a YN-622C. Love it and plan on using it for years to come.

this is suppose to do ttl but of course now canon has come out with the 600s and this will not keep up... But, this flash does come with a one year warranty and if you buy on american express you get two years of warranty total. So, a safe bet with the right positioning on your purchase from the beginning. I also have the smaller version without ttl and I shoot a lot of manual flash and love it for it's easy of use with zoom and level of flash output. No misfires or anything to complain about. Update: outstanding in that it has worked reliably now for over a year -- I do recommend it... I use it as a hair light frequently or for gels. Wish you all success in your photography.

Since I photograph weddings and other social events, you never can have enough backup equipment so I bought this flash as a backup to two Canon 580 ex 2 flashes and a 420 ex flash. I figured it was 1/3 the cost of the Canon 580 units so why not. Well to my surprise was I surprised! I decided to test my new Yongnuo flash in real world working conditions and to cut to the chase for my last 2 events it was my primary flash!! Exposure and color rendition is excellent and recycling time very fast with no overheating problems. So far I am very happy with this purchase. Only time will tell how well this flash unit will hold up, I am hopefully optimistic but at 1/3 the cost I can buy three!!

MUY EXCELENTÉ!!! this flash.....omg. ....OMG....IT USES TTL ON CANON!!! I was so surprised it actually worked this well. I actually have the on without TTL and it works fine but ibreally wanted to control the flash in camera. This is definitely a cheaper alternative to Canon's authentic flash. If you havebthe money though go ahead and get Canon's flash cause it may work a little better but yongnuo has found a themselves a new comsumer.

I purchased this flash with great skepticism because of the negative reviews. I purchased 2 Yongnuo YN-565 EX TTL Flashes. I hoped these flashes would have some durability and reliability. I am an architectural photographer and photograph hotels, homes and commercial buildings. I average 5 to 10 jobs a week and as many as 2 a day. I use them heavily on every assignment and in 4 months and they have not failed me yet. I may have been fortunate to receive two of the good ones. I would buy these again.

I now have 3 YN-565 EX and 2 YN-568 EX's and they work every bit as well as the Canon 430 EX II's. I use the Yongnuo YN622 transceivers with them and am very happy. Pop one of these on the YN622 transceiver, set the flash to TTL mode, put another YN622 on your hot shoe and turn it on, you'll be able to switch firing the flash from TTL to manual with your in camera flash control. Set the transceivers between A, B, and C when using multiple flashes and you can make manual power and zoom adjustments on the speedlites without having to walk over to them.

I bought my Canon T2i because I needed something faster than a point and shoot. I use my camera to take pictures of the kids, pets and family gathering. It's my opinion this flash is the best deal going. I've read pretty much all the reviews about this flash and was almost scared away. I was looking at the 430EX and ultimately decided against it due to my price sensitivity. What I felt the YN-565ex offered was a bigger flash (Range and Distance). Now if you're a pro or an aspiring pro or you just might be rough with you equipment, maybe this product isn't for you. I use the YN-565ex as a flash. I don't use it as a slave or master, and I don't expect it to make coffee. It's a flash that works with my camera My only minor issue with this flash, so far, is the recycle time. I turned off the "ready" beep (annoying sound) and I don't always check the "ready" light before I take another picture. When this happens I missed the shot (Blank Photo). Not a big deal it charges in 2 to 3 seconds. A couple of things could be attributing to the slow recycle time... Battery drains fast or that just the way the flash operates. Oh, and there is no High Speed Sync... but who cares? Remember not a pro, and I don't want to be. I take picture of kids and dogs at the park and at birthday parties.

I’ve been a fan of the Yongnuo YN-560 manual flash for a few years, but was hesitant to buy it’s TTL cousin. I decided to give them a try at a 6 day conference I recently shot (7800 frames) with two of the Yongnuo YN-565 EXs. These flashes functioned double duty as on camera eTTL flashes and off camera with pocketwizards + umbrella for makeshift studio lighting. The ttl was dead on without fail and the off camera function worked great. ...The audio beep to let me know that the eneloop batteries had recycled the flash - just like the (heavy) strobes I left back in the studio. I love the fact that I can travel with these and if they get broken or stolen by T_S_A agents the cost to replaces them is less than sending a Canon OEM to Newport News. Highly recommended.

First impression: I was looking for a companion to my Canon 430EX and didn't feel like to cough up another few hundred dollars for a Canon one, because I'm only a hobbyist. So far only tested the functions [no real shoot yet], but my T3i is able to communicate even with the Yongnuo's function menu. The zoom is responsive. It seems though that unlike the Canon, the Yongnuo focuses even if tilted. Needs further testing. Only zooms between 24-105. No 14 mm drop for diffuser. The beep sound was annoying, but was easy to disable it [cfn14]. Slave and wireless modes are easy to setup, similar to Canon. Works flawlessly with the built in controls of the T3i! While the head doesn't have a locking button similar found on the 430EX, it holds very secure [held my Interfit Strobies Globe with the Uni-Mount steady while shaking the flash]

I had a Canon 580 EXII that blew. Looking for a cheaper alternative and works basically as Canon flashes. When combined with the Yongnuo transceivers worked extremely for use of two lights at local DIII college basketball games. I haven't checked the actual distance at this time, but certainly didn't experience any problems or misfires. I knew in advance I wouldn't have high speed sync and also could not use as a master. This unit as several have mentioned is most similar to the Canon flashes in layout and function. I will be ordering another or two of these in the near future.

Bought this to use with Canon T2i or 350D. I thought I wanted the Canon speedlite 600EX. I do a lot of portrait and event work. So portable flash is convenient to use. But I need to use more that one. Well it's pretty easy to see the math. I can buy 4 of these for the price of one 600. So first things first. Try one. I had read a lot of reviews, and after buying this one and testing it, well I just can't believe anyone would or could rate it less than 5 stars. I have used it on and off camera, and as a slave, with and without a radio trigger, bounced lite off ceilings and an umbrella (don't forget my Rogue FlashBenders ROGUERELG Large Positionable Reflector), and well tested just about every function the flash has. It's built in defuser and reflector work very well. Everything works as it should. It's power range is a little more than the 430EX, but not the power of the 600. I will be ordering the other 3 now. Final note... I have other flashes as well, but it's a plus to have all the same kind to use when you need more than one for any kind of shooting event.

If you looking at this you most likely are turned off by the high cost of canon's name brand flashes. This Flash gives you most of the features of canons high end flash. The only main features missing are high speed sync and wireless command of other flashes. If you need these features you are stuck with the much more expensive canons. However if you are looking to get in to flash photography, or are looking to add an extra light to your gear with out the high cost of canons light this is probably for you. The Ettl works great with my T2i and sets the exposure correctly with the flash. The flash is well made, feels very sturdy and comes with a carrying case and foot stand. The added diffuser and flash card are nice additions although may break with constant use. The manual isn't the greatest but the flash works very similar to the canon lights it is built to resemble even to the extent that you can use canon's manual with it. All in all well worth the money for many advanced features with out the high price of canon's name. There are reasons to buy canon's lights but if you don't have these reasons then you are much better suited to buy one or two or even three of these for the money

I did a great amount of research before deciding to get the YN-565ex. Included in this is comparing and contrasting against other speedlites of the same price. I always read both professional reviews as well as user reviews, watch Youtube reviews etc. etc. I decided on the YN-565ex despite some concern over the quality of Chinese made electronics, specifically a high end item like this. So far my concern has been completely unfounded and am very pleased with my YN-565ex. Combine this fact with the price and I rate this product 5 stars. No need to pay $500.00 for Canon unless you need the few extras that the Canon has that the Yongnuo offshoot doesn't. Even when shooting at a higher level (general studio work, communions, birthdays, etc etc) this strobe will get the job done so don't be afraid. I have already fired off about 500 shots with this Speedlite and it worked excellently every time. I have used it to take some studio portraits and it fired as a slave as well as with a wireless triggers (Yongnuo's 603s). This morning I used it on a cold NJ beach to take photos in below freezing temps and no problem whatsoever. TTL works good and any newcomer to the world of Speedlites will be pleased with the fact that they can just about fire and forget. About the only poor part of this product is the instruction manual which is about as helpful as a punch in the face but look on Youtube and you can basically find instructions for just about anything with this strobe. The controls take a little getting used to but for the most part aren't difficult. This is an excellent value for anyone who wants to to start shooting with a quality speedlite but doesn't want to pay $500+ dollars to do it. I will keep you updated as to whether or not I have any future problems.

I was looking for an affordable flash and I found it. This flash works great with the camera settings in both ETTL or Manual. (I use Manual mostly) This flash really does work just like the Canon 580, the controls are in pretty much the same place, I showed it to a friend who has the Canon version and she picked it up and controlled as if it was her Canon 580, the biggest give away was the screen color :) I have used this flash on my hot shoe on my Canon Rebel T3i, & 7D, I have also triggered it in my studio as a slave from my T3i, works great, so great I plan to purchase a second one as a lower cost option for the higher priced strobes. The battery life is awesome, I did a wedding shoot/reception and it lasted about 9 hours before I had to replace batteries. I did invest in the Duracell rechargeable batteries. I even used it recently at a kid's concert and I was pretty far back with zoom and this flash was very powerful even with the low light and the distance away. The only negative I would have to say is that for the most part recycle times are adequate but in some situations a slight delay may occur Highly recommend this flash!

I've been using this flash for a few years now and it's worked quite well. Used both on camera and off (wireless) and it's worked flawlessly. It was definitely worth the money and I have since bought other Yongnuo products.
