Whist this is probably not as well made as the far more expensive makes, it is ideal for a photographer on a tight budget (me!). It is slightly stiff in movement but it's not at all jerky and feels smooth. A little light oil and lots of use will probably free things up. My very first shot taken with it of a Lesser Black Backed Gull proved it's worth. Up until now I've used a ball head, but for tracking moving targets this wins hands down. Can't afford an expensive gimbal head? Get this, it's worth every penny!

Fantastic value for money. I'm using it with a monfrotto monopod that has the quick adjust up and down lever and a sigma 150-600mm lens. I'm able to shoot very sharp photos at the 600mm focal length with this gimbal head. it moves easily but is not loose so your camera will not move about. The locking nut is just that. It locks on or off. Its not a friction adjustment. Much better value than paying for the more expensive models.

After a few months of debating as to whether I need a Wimberley, I decided to risk it and go for this. I'm normally a bit weary about cheaper alternatives when it comes to tripods and their heads, but this one was worth the risk as its turned out to be an excellent purchase. This holds my nikon 300mm f4 steady and can be easily tilted and swiveled with hardly any effort except for the odd bit of stiffness. It does exactly what I needed it to, and the extra control has allowed me to get some shots I would of otherwise missed. Plus being only £60, that was a huge saving over the £520 I was willing to dish out on a Wimberley.

just got the gimbal today the plan was to strip it down to re engineer with taper roller bearings . this was due to some comments left as reviews here and on you tube. but after inspecting and testing have decided to leave this in its standard configuration . i intend to use the head with a 150 600 sigma zoom lens. and bearing in mind the amount of change in the balance point as the lens is zoomed in and out a certain amount of friction would be an advantage to save having to balance the lens all the time. as for the weight issue its only 300grams more than a wimberly head. hope this review is of use to others regards mike

I was very impressed when I tried it out with my canon 500. It may not have any metal bearings but I find it OK. The fact that it does not return to a level if you let it go is a plus, no need to bother with the friction dial and it does not take any effort to move. I had thought for a few years that one would be handy now and again but the price of the well known makes put me off (v.overpriced). I have fitted a manfrotto adapter plate (for 410) on sliding plate and a 410 on the bottom to fit on the rock steady 468MG RC4 head on a 55XB.

Having read the reviews of this tripod head, some of which were a bit negative, I was a bit concerned that this product was a poorly manufactured item. On arrival, I was pleasantly surprised at the good quality. The action is smooth both in the vertical and horizontal plains.and compares very favourably with the more famous and expensive versions of gimbal head. The only downside I found is the length of the camera fitting bracket. I could only just get my Nikon D300s to fit and ended up buying the larger mounting plate, Overall, it represents excellent value for money.

Great for the money, it's not a top brand performer but with a bit of squirty oil on the joints it's fine, you don't need it loose so it flops about everywhere, you need that bit of dampening to keep your camera steady, if you have loads of cash to splash get a top brand one, for most of us this will do nicely, Thankyou.

I use the head for supporting a camera and heavy telephoto lens and it allows easy movement in all directions. There is no need to lock the head - the camera remains stable and still in whatever position it is put. This is a much better system than, for example, the ball joint or pistol grip which I have used previously. For the price the head is outstandingly good. The horizontal movement is smooth and free. The vertical movement has more resistance but remains smooth and without backlash. Flexing of the tripod is more of a problem than any lack of stability in the head. Overall an excellent product.

Excellent value for money. The swing arm may feel a bit stiff compared to more expensive brands but I find it useful to have this resistance to push against as it means a heavy lens is more controllable. Vertical rotation is a bit rough unless the locking bolt is quite loose. The compass and level are useless gimmicks. Quite a few niggles but they don't detract from the useability. It is strong, very adjustable and has a good quick-release plate. Recommended if you are on a tight budget.
