Wanted to wait a week before writing a review to let my initial glee settle out. This device has a certain novelty attached that comes with using something that is not often considered useful. As such, when I experienced the annoyance of the laser working for a couple seconds and dying on the second day, I was quickly dismayed. I persevered however and discovered that this unit has a charge rate limiter located between the power button and the charge/info port. The switch allows one to switch from 0.5 to 1 A charge rate. It came set to 0.5 and this was not demoted in the manual. . . After switching it over I have not encountered the issue again. I do not have an Android, but I tested the programs for Windows XP, 7 and 10 as well as the iPhone app. They all worked as expected. The Windows .exe was the fastest and best interface and worked the same way across all theee versions. The iPhone app can use some improvement, namely the ability to chose the burn style. It does take a couple minutes to transfer an image from the iPhone, but this was within expectations and noted several times. The 1.5 A Laser did do about Four solid burns per fully charged battery. I like the fact the amber LED by the Red Power LED flashed indicating power level. There is a slider in both the program and the app to allow one to change the burn speed. Faster on wood and cardboard, slower in leather. I did test the laser on metal with paint, ink and other coating applied. Unfortunately I could not get this laser to burn anything into metals. . . All in all, I’ve found this device best suited to burning tokens and trinkets out of wood. I recommend a sticky surface like the one they provide for loose words as the inherent vibrations will cause the wood token to wander. Also take care not to move the work plate. If you do, my recommendation is to power the unit down an reboot so that it re-zeros. With each surface, take time to focus the laser. I found that polarized sunglasses worked a little better than the provided eye shields. I do not recommend staring for longer periods however and their disclaimer stands as well, the emissions of this laser are NOT within American standards for exposure and you can get sunburned in your eyes for staring too intently at this device in action. Cheers!
